Skate Park/AR HOA/Oil & Gas Moratorium

Dear Erie Neighbors,

Last month I wrote to tell you about the funding concerns I have for the skate park.  At the July 24, 2012 BOT meeting 4 out of 7 votes were cast in favor of moving forward with the construction of this project.  There is not enough money in the park impact funds, and $600,000 will be needed from the town’s general fund, aka, our savings, the skate park is going to be built. Although this is a loan, there is now no chance of our using these funds to off-set future taxation needed to build the much needed police station.  My preference is to have the skate park built as part of with Phase II of the Erie Community Park at a later date, when our population is larger and in a better financial position to afford it and not use savings.

Thank you very much to everyone who expressed their opinions and concerns about the Skate Park.  Whether you sent an email to me and the Board of Trustees (BOT), phoned, or spoke at public comment during the BOT meeting, your input matters and I appreciate it.

Another topic in front of the Board these days is about the HOA outlot mowing, in Arapahoe Ridge (AR).  Whether you know the details or just the basics, the issue is simply about one neighborhood wanting the taxpayers of Erie to cover the cost for mowing and upkeep of their neighborhood areas.  I live in AR and believe the town wide HOA maintenance policies established in 2005 and enacted in 2009 should remain in place as they ensure favoritism is not allowed.  To me, Erie residents simply should not have to pay for another neighborhood’s maintenance.  If this topic comes up again, which I believe it will, please consider coming to speak at Public Comment and let your views be known.

Lastly, upcoming at this Tuesday’s meeting is the consideration to lift the moratorium on new wells in Erie. At this time, with what I know, we are waiting for data regarding the air quality in Erie.  Until we have that information, I am not ready to vote in favor of lifting the moratorium. Although supportive of a communication vehicle called MOUs (Memorandum Of Understanding) with EnCana and Anadarko gas companies, I believe it is in our best interest to have the information about air quality beforehand.

Thank you for taking your time to read this.  I wish you and your family a happy start to the school year and a pleasant Fall season.
